Hi, I’m Meredith! I’m a rising senior with a passion for healthcare, particularly as an aspiring pediatric nurse.
Participating in the Tufts Mini Med School program was a transformative experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped into the Tufts Medical School, I felt a mix of excitement and anticipation. The warm welcome from other students, TAs, and engaging professors quickly made me feel at home.
Throughout the week, I was immersed in a dynamic learning environment where theory met practice in a variety of ways. Hands-on activities were the heart of my experience. From learning the intricacies of suturing to the fascinating dissection of a sheep brain and pig heart, each activity challenged me to think critically and use practical skills essential to healthcare. Mastering CPR techniques and experiencing simulated emergency scenarios further solidified my desire to pursue a career where I can make a direct impact on patient care.
Beyond the technical skills, the program provided invaluable networking opportunities. Interacting with medical and dental professionals broadened my understanding of different specialties and career paths within healthcare. Collaborating with peers on projects, like investigating antibiotic resistance in the Stan Lab, not only deepened my knowledge but also taught me the importance of teamwork and effective communication in healthcare settings.
When my group presented our capstone project, we focused on CPR techniques, heart arrhythmias, and defibrillation. We were all extremely proud to see that the project we had worked hard on for the past few days had gotten second place!
Looking back, the Tufts Mini Med School program was more than just a week of learning—it was a pivotal experience that ignited my passion for healthcare even further. It has equipped me with practical knowledge and skills that I continue to apply in my volunteering, work, and academic pursuits. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and excited about the future steps I will take toward becoming a pediatric nurse. I am so grateful for the opportunity that was given to me and only wish that I could do the program again. Thank you!
