How Tufts Pre-College Summer Accelerator Expanded My Perspective on History, AI, and College Life

My time at the Tufts Pre-College Summer Accelerator was awesome. I took two classes there: “What is History” taught by Dr. David Proctor and “Responsible AI” taught by Professor Stephen J. Muscolino. These classes helped provide a rigorous pace that will help prepare me for life in college. In addition, both of these classes were extremely interesting to me.

In my “What is History” class, we learned about how history is not a stuffy, old, and dry subject that we learn in school. Throughout the course, rather than telling us what to think, our professor guided us through discussion, examining the works of other historians. Through this collaborative process, we got to learn about the nuances in studying history, making it just as alive and perpetually changing as science.

My second class, “Responsible AI” was another discussion-based class. In it, we studied the potential upsides and downsides of the integration of Artificial Intelligence into the different sectors of society such as economy, politics, and social media. In particular, we spent a large amount of time discussing its impacts through the lens of social media, and how artificial intelligence can be integrated into society safely through regulation.

In addition to learning in the classroom, we got to see Tufts campus and even take a trip to Boston. During my time, I got to meet people from many diverse backgrounds. Getting to make friends from different parts of the world was one of the greatest experiences of cultural exchange that I have ever had.
