Understanding Where I Belong in the Medical Field

My name is Katerina Bonos and I participated in the Tufts Mini Medical School program in summer 2021! I was so excited to join the program this year after hearing great stories and experiences. Throughout my two weeks in the Mini Med School program I was able to gain hands-on experience in a way that I never had before. I was able to take the position as a doctor throughout multiple lab days and case studies. These were done within small groups where I met many friends from not only different states but also from different countries. I also was able to work with a TA, Steven, who is a medical school student himself. Within my small group I completed The Stan Lab which allowed me to explore testing, identifying, and treating illnesses in order to help a patient. The four different case studies helped me learn how to collaborate with others in order to diagnose a patient through physical exams and lab work. One of my favorite parts of the Mini Medical School was being able to hear career talks directly from experts of their fields to learn more about potential careers in the medical field as well as new research that's being conducted throughout the world. I would definitely recommend this program to anybody who is interested in a medical career and who is willing to put in the hard work needed to complete the program. In my time in the Mini Medical School, I have been able to learn about the medical field in a completely unique way and it has helped me understand where I belong in the medical community.
