Exploring AI, Engineering, and Community at Tufts

Over the two weeks, I had a memorable experience participating in the Engineering with AI program and exploring Tufts.

In the program, I delved into numerous aspects of AI. As the functions and the operation of AI are mostly abstract and invisible, I was astonished by the advanced and down-to-earth teaching methods equipped in the program, which seamlessly combined the theories and the real machines.

The program featured guest speakers including graduate students and professors from prestigious institutions such as Harvard and MIT, as well as CEOs of AI-based companies. From these experts, we gained insights into studying AI and understanding its practical applications as a tool.

The time arrangement in the program was also well-designed, as the program ran in a specific timeline from basic principles to actual operations to ensure that we are all taken well. There is a tantalizing “sugar break” during the course handed out sugar and snacks. The pedagogy is considerate since aside from our program director, we had four additional teaching assistants who major in different STEM departments at Tufts. They are all dedicated to help us cope with the difficulties—responding immediately to any questions—and they all excel in AI and are ready for any technical problems. Additionally, they are easy to get along with socially. They shared the interesting experience in their studies and life and were willing to provide guidance and suggestions for us applying to colleges.

The activities both in the program and Tufts were intriguing. We shared ideas to collaborate on final projects and had fun in different sports games, a water-ball fight, and a dance party. These activities fostered friendships and made my spare time at Tufts meaningful.

Overall, the Engineering with AI program at Tufts provided an enriching and enjoyable experience, blending rigorous academic learning with fun and supportive social interactions.
