During their session, Pre-College residential students live in Tufts Residential Quad, a collection of buildings that house first-year Tufts students during the academic year. Most students can expect to live in a double room with a roommate. Each student will have a twin XL bed, a dresser/drawers for storage, a closet or wardrobe, and a desk/desk chair. Most students will share a bathroom with other students and should be prepared to carry toiletries, clothes, and other bathroom necessities between their room and the bathroom. Each building has a plethora of communal spaces, including study lounges, living rooms, and a kitchen, where students can gather to watch movies, study for classes, make a snack, and spend time getting to know each other!
Just like college students during the academic year, Pre-College students have staff members living in their hallways and in their building — this way, students know who they can reach out to for support and access those folks easily. Residential Counselors, or RCs, are the primary support for students who live in the same hallway; these RCs also host afternoon, evening, and weekend activities, are chaperones on academic and residential field trips, and are available to connect with students individually to share resources, talk through concerns, or provide additional perspective on the college campus experience. Each building has a Head Resident Counselor; the Head RCs supervise the RCs, are in charge of their specific building, and play a huge role in ensuring that all students are supported while on campus. Our residential students are also supported by two nurses who help manage student medications and health concerns and two Residential Program Directors who are committed to ensuring all students enjoy a safe, memorable session at Tufts.
The residential team’s primary goal is to ensure a safe and enjoyable campus experience for our residential students. We accomplish this in more ways than one, including: following up on absences, connecting students with health staff, providing support/resources to students who need them, and planning a series of awesome activities and trips to engage students across comfort and activity levels.
Students attending Tufts Pre-College Programs are Tufts students, which means that the Tufts University Code of Conduct applies to Pre-College students, as well. The Code of Conduct is a series of policies and university procedures that allow everyone to connect with all aspects of the university while maintaining safety and respect for all members of the campus community. We encourage students and families to review the Code of Conduct together, talk through the various policies, and reach out to our team if there are any questions.
