Tufts Pre-College

Mini-Med School - Exceeding Expectations

This was my first time attending a program like this: living in dorms and learning from professors and medical students we're completely new things. That also meant I had very high expectations. I hoped I was able to understand college life, build relationships with like-minded peers and mentors, and learn a myriad amount of medical information. I’m happy to say that attending this program exceeded my already high expectations: it was incredible and something I will always remember.

During these two weeks, I learned an incredible amount of medical skills, made new friends and connections, and (most importantly), confirmed my love for medicine and a career in healthcare. Dr. Jacque, my TA Mike, and the rest of the faculty were extremely kind and thoughtful. Everything was very meticulous all thanks to the faculty. I genuinely love this program and will recommend this to my peers.

Now, as I am writing these days after the program, I can’t help but shed a tear. The once real moments happening in front of me are now fragments of my imagination. The friends I’ve made throughout the program are just faceless through my phone. Even though I probably won’t see the friends I’ve made ever again, they will still be in my heart and my memories through photos and videos. I’ve learned to enjoy moments while they last because once it’s gone, it’s gone.

While all this might seem a bit depressing, attending a pre-college program might just change your life. The Tufts Mini-Med Program confirmed my love for a career in medicine and gave me a chance to experience college life and make new connections. I would totally recommend pre-college programs to eager and ambitious students. But also remember: do what you love and enjoy moments while they last.
